When to schedule the newborn photoshoot?

Anything more exciting than having pictures of the new addition to the family taken? Newborns change so quickly, every single day, that you just don't want to miss out on capturing the memories of those blessed days for the future. You may be wondering when is the best time to schedule the newborn photoshoot session. Read this post to get the answer to the question and a few other common questions.

How old does my baby need to be for his/her newborn photoshoot?

If you want the pictures to be taken in adorable curly poses with the baby sleeping; consider taking photos five to twelve days after giving birth and not waiting longer than two weeks for the session.

But this is not the only way of taking newborn pictures! I personally prefer doing "Lifestyle Newborn Photography" Aka "Candid Photoshoots". What that means is that I avoid wrapping and posing the newborn baby. So they don't need to be super sleepy to follow the photo session rules, as they are in their first two weeks of life! Babies are perfect just the way they are and I would be happy to capture their newborn pictures at any age. That being said, to capture the newborn freshness I recommend getting the first photo session scheduled anytime before the baby is two months old.

When should I schedule my baby's newborn photoshoot?

Most of my clients book their newborn sessions while they are still expecting. What I do is mark their due date on my calendar and wait for the parents to inform me after the baby is born. Then we move on and pick a date that works best for the baby and parents.

However, if you have not booked your session yet, it's never too late. If your baby is already born contact us and we will get you on the books.

What should I bring to a newborn photoshoot? (Checklist for parents)

To avoid confusion on the day of the photoshoot, here are some newborn photography essentials:

  • Have snacks and water for yourself and any pets and siblings. The photoshoot can be long and tiring.

  • Have at least one change of clothing, just in case any accidents happen.

  • Have the diaper bags filled with changing and feeding essentials.

  • Bring any outfits, props, or special toys you would like to add to the pictures.

  • If the siblings are coming too don't forget their entertaining stuff.

I can’t wait to capture your family during this magical time. ❤️ Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

By the way, the baby in this post was two months old.
